HelixSight Analytics

Interactive Data Visualization Platform for Genomic Research Collaboration

Where complexity meets clarity, interactivity, and collaboration

HelixSight Analytics set out to simplify how genomics teams explore complex omics data.

Their backend infrastructure could process massive volumes from WGS, transcriptomics, and methylation studies. But researchers had no intuitive way to access or interact with the results.

They needed more than backend speed.
They needed a frontend experience that made large-scale data visual, interactive, and accessible to both bioinformaticians and bench scientists.

Scalability partnered with HelixSight to design a browser-based platform that turns static files into live, collaborative insights.

The Challenge

The backend could handle the load, but the users could not.

HelixSight's processing engine was powerful, but the output was locked in static files or technical scripts. Teams were exchanging PDFs, screenshots, or R code instead of exploring data together. Non-coders could not contribute. Scientists were missing critical context.

The platform faced several obstacles:
- No interactive way to view results across cohorts
- Poor adoption among researchers without technical skills
- Rigid chart types with no filters, annotations, or zooming
- No frontend to explain how the system worked or where results came from

To increase engagement and insight, HelixSight needed an interface that worked at the speed of science.

The Solution

Scalability worked with HelixSight to build a fully responsive data exploration platform. It sits on top of their existing API and delivers a flexible, intuitive way to visualize, compare, and share high-dimensional omics results.

Key features included:

- Real-time charts such as volcano plots, PCA maps, and heatmaps
- Filters by gene, mutation, tissue type, and cohort
- Pinboard functionality for saving and sharing selected insights
- Built-in gene annotations and export tools for images and structured data
- Public-facing “Our Platform” explainer to guide users through the data pipeline

The entire system was designed to support both research and communication, giving teams a shared visual language for discovery.

The Impact

From disconnected exports to real-time collaboration.

HelixSight’s new platform enabled researchers across roles and institutions to work with omics data directly. Scientists no longer had to wait for data specialists to generate plots or explain findings. Instead, they could open the tool and start exploring on their own.

Adoption rates increased across wet-lab teams, academic partners, and pharma collaborators. The interface helped HelixSight position itself as not only technically strong, but also user-focused and collaborative.

The platform is now a central part of their active projects and is featured in grant applications and partnership demos.
